About This Publication
This book comprises text and illustrations from a core workshop on the Wilcox Group that was presented by Bureau of Economic Geology State of Texas Advanced Resource Recovery Program, Austin Geological Society, and Jackson School of Geosciences, in Austin in 2016.

Excerpt
The purpose of this workshop is to present the sedimentology and ichnology of the Wilcox Group in Texas based on core information to help to determine depositional environments. The integration of the physical and biogenic features within these deposits affords the opportunity to characterize the facies and facies successions and to explain the observed facies variability.

Cores in the Wilcox Group in Texas display a variety of facies from distributary channels and flood plains (Carl Gillette #1, Moczygemba #ll), tidal flats dissected by intertidal channels and creeks (Vogelsang Frieda #1) to wave-dominated deltaic and shoreface deposits (Nagel Charles #1, Apache #1-B Tips, Vogelsang Frieda #1, Moczygemba #ll) and slope deposits (Allen #2).

Cores are useful in understanding reservoir architecture because they display a vertical profile of rock fabric, contacts between beds, and sedimentary structures. Vertical trends in lithology, grain size, and stratification record changes in sedimentary processes and depositional environments through time.
